The D6 Difference: Matt Cox, District 6 Online Academy

The D6 Difference: Here's why staff choose D6! Matt Cox, D6 Online Academy

"What makes me feel proud about my experience as a D6 Educator is seeing students who have been with us since 2020 and are now graduating or are close to graduation. Whether students are with us for a semester or for years to come, we have a safe place to support them both academically and social-emotionally. We have a very strong MTSS team to support students who are falling behind. Our administration and grade bands consistently provide opportunities at our building to support students throughout the school year."

"I am incredibly proud of the culture we’ve built at District 6 Online Academy. Our staff operates with a deep sense of mutual support, staying unified in our commitment to UIP goals and K-12 achievement. Most importantly, our students consistently report a strong sense of belonging, especially our new transfer students. This speaks volumes about the strength of our community and proves that meaningful connection knows no physical boundaries."

When you think about your experience in our district, what makes you feel proud to work here?

"What makes me feel proud about my experience as a D6 Educator is seeing students who have been with us since 2020 and are now graduating or are close to graduation. Whether students are with us for a semester or for years to come, we have a safe place to support them both academically and social-emotionally. We have a very strong MTSS team to support students who are falling behind. Our administration and grade bands consistently provide opportunities at our building to support students throughout the school year."

What keeps you feeling connected to and supported by our school community?

"Our Middle School team maintains seamless daily connectivity through consistent team meetings, emails, and Google Hangouts. This collaborative environment ensures that support is always available whenever a colleague is in need. Specifically, Jorge and Cassie provide invaluable leadership for the Secondary team; their consistent presence in PLC and MTSS meetings helps guide our data-driven discussions and ensures we are effectively meeting every student's needs."

What's a fun fact about your job?

"At the Secondary Level, we host a lot of in person events to bring our student community together including movie/game night, Winter Wonderland (stations for fun winter themed activities), and Treat Street! We also hold quarter based ceremonies at our D6OA office to celebrate student success."

What is one experience with a student or staff member that left a lasting, positive impact on you?

"Reflecting on the last several years, my professional growth has been deeply shaped by my collaboration with exceptional co-teachers like Laura Dambreville, Felicia Chacon, Coral Mitchell, Keri Campion, and Cindy Jones. Exploring various co-teaching models alongside them has been transformative. Their diverse instructional modeling has not only refined my own teaching practice but has also provided me with a much deeper understanding of how our students process and master new concepts."
