During online sessions, the camera is to be on and centered (framed up test). The background should be reduced to allow students to engage fully in learning. Students should use headphones to assist with hearing and focus. Students are to be facing the screen, listening, and participating. Students should be responsive to messages and voice prompts. If the student is not framed up on camera, off-task, and does not respond to the teacher, the student may be marked absent for the remainder of the session. There may also be disciplinary consequences for routine failure to meet these engagement expectations.
Frame Up Test
When your camera is properly centered, teachers should be able to see all of your faces in the camera. This means that if you put a hand above your head and another below your head, both hands should be fully visible on the screen. You should also ensure the video is not too close or too far away and that you are in the center of the feed. The lighting should be good so you can be seen.
This matters so we can help ensure you are engaged, understanding, and following along. It helps us connect. Many teachers activate "focus mode" so that you do not have to worry about others seeing you. In focus mode, only hosts can see you.
We do expect you to follow this D6OA Engagement Expectation, but we also want to understand you. If I send you this file, please let me know what keeps you from meeting our engagement expectations. How can I support you to make sure you do? Message me on GoGuardian with a response.
